HP and Torque gains
I'm hoping someone can give me some real world numbers of HP and Torque gains with different mods. (I know it depends on the car, but I just don't trust the advertising hype) I'm trying to decide if these mods are worth the trouble.
Underdrive pulleys? Exhaust?(headers,X-pipe...) I have a K&N filter, and have removed the air silencer. How much of a gain is that good for? Also, how bad a hit am I taking on gas mileage if I go to 3.73 gears. (obviously I didn't buy a Cobra for its gas mileage , but I would like to know.) |

An aftermarket x\h-pipe and a set of pullies will net you anywhere from a 10-20 rear wheel horsepower gain.
The stock headers on 99-up stangs are not that restrictive, so I would wait on those, and cat-back systems will just change the exhaust tone, no real gains there either... 3.73s won't take a huge hit on gas milage, in fact, its hardly noticable, (but you WILL lose a couple MPG). First mods for you in my opinion should be some gears, an after-market shifter, pullies and an X\H-pipe. With just these mods, you won't believe the driving difference in the butt-o-meter... plus you'll be ready for later mods. Also think heavily about some sub frame connectors if you're going to go for anything more than basic bolt-ons. The Cobra comes with subframe connectors.
Mine is a convertible and does have them already. Are welded in subframe connectors worth the difference since I already have some? |

oops, my mistake...
Just scratch the sub-frames then... Maybe if you were putting down some high hp #s, but for near stock, the subframes you have should be fine... ------------------ Adam "Hammer" Packett: Moderator, Gulf War Veteran GO GET 'EM BOYS! |
