![]() I'm having trouble getting my shifter to shift into all the gears on my "82GT.
When I took it out last time, I heard this thumping sound from under the car so I jacked it up and noticed the drive shaft was hitting the shifter cable. The cable has part of the outer rubber sleeve torn off and I can see part of the steel cable inside. Is that the cause of my shifting problems? Shifting feels kind of sloppy. I have a B&M pro stick shifter. BTW, a buddy of mine has a quick silver shifter & cable he will sell me for $30. Is that a better shifter than the Pro stick or just a matter of preference?

![]() Well, missing chunks out of the sheath cant be good, but anyway, lol. Off the top of my head, this would be my first step.
I dont know much about the b&m's but have you tried getting under it, and (With the car safely jacked up and or chocked!!) moving the shift lever by hand? If it feels sloppy, you know its the tranny, if not the shifter. As to which shifter is better, I would ask him to let you install it and try it before you buy, and see which you like more. J

![]() Replace the cable, and route it out of the way of moving parts and heat. Once you adjust the new cable correctly, your problems will go away.

![]() I was looking at it tonight and noticed it was way out of adjustment. I'll find out tomorrow when I get it off the jack stands and take it for a spin. At least now the shifter position corresponds with the actual gear it's in. I ordered a new shifter cable from Summit also. It probably won't hurt to have a new one.
