NMRA Nabs Bradenton
After 11 years of kicking off the Mustang drag racing season with the Spring Break Shootout at Bradenton Motorsports Park (formerly Desoto Dragway), Fun Ford Weekend is looking for a new venue for its season-opening event after the National Mustang Racers Association announced on October 15 that it had signed a 5-year partnership with the Bradenton, Florida, facility. The NMRA's opening event of 2002 will be held at Bradenton on March 8-10, formerly the date of Fun Ford Weekend’s Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords-sponsored Spring Break Shootout. At this writing, Fun Ford Weekend was searching for a replacement venue for its season opener. In an NMRA e-mail announcement, it was stated that the NMRA and Bradenton Motorsports Park plan to utilize their extensive and aggressive advertising and promotional resources to develop the Bradenton race into one of the largest all-Ford events in the country. According to NMRA VP of Business & Event Development Charlie Harmon, "This is a landmark move forward for Ford drag racing. Bradenton Motorsports Park is a top-quality facility with a long history in Ford Motorsport racing events. It is our mutual goal to elevate the status of Ford racing in Florida and to take this event to the next level." The NMRA season opener at Bradenton will be a three-day event, with test and tune and tech/registration scheduled for Friday, Saturday qualifying, and Sunday eliminations.
