Default Cold air induction

Ive read how people have k&n filters, and how some people have these MAC cold air induction kits, and some people have both. whats the difference when i look at my engine i see a pipe leading from my filter to the engine, is a mac induction thing just replacing that with a chrome one? is taking the silencer box out and just using a filter bad? it said on MAC C. A. site that thats bad for the engine cause it actually takes in hotter air.....im getting things that are contrary each other.....lol which company is tellin the truth and which is makin their thing sound like best thing since sliced bread

I started out with a K&N filter...I can't say I saw a difference only because the car went from the dealer straight to AutoZone to get it...installed in the parking lot and removed the silencer, lol. I got a best 14.05 out of it. I changed to a MAC CAI fenderwell kit. I got a best 14.4 out of it. I took the 90 degree bend off and put back the factory box with the K&N and picked up 4 tenths on the very next run. i was averaging 14.4 - 14.6 with that basted thing. I still lost 3 mph overall and am still trying to find that problem, but that's my findings between K&N/stock box vs. MAC CAI.

By the by, I left the chrome tube between the MAF and the TB in place...debating changing that back to stock at the track for testing purposes. I'll keep you posted.

CAI, IMO, is WAY over rated.

Just pull your silencer, pop in a K&N and go.

Not only will you prob not gain much hp from CAI, but you could actully lose some because of head soak. That nice aluminum pipe soaks up all the heat from the header.

so just throw in a K&N, yank the silencer, and save some money

You know...I was wondering if heat soak could be the second part of my problem...I was gonna yank the pretty pipe at the track tomorrow after my second pass, ice the daylights out of it. I can't understand a sudden et and mph loss with no other changes made to the car (at the time of install)...

thanks for that input..a great help! =)
