Information on Check Engine light

Last weekend I installed an off-road H pipe. Of course now I have a check engine light on and I would like to trick the PCM into thinking I still have a cat (in case I get a "real" check engine light). Does anyone know how the "dummy" O2 sensors work. Are they passive or active? I think all I need to do is put in a 2-3 second delay into the secondary O2 sensor but I don't know how to package the delay as it gets very hot and sometimes wet underneath the car. Any suggestions besides wimping out and buying a "dummy" O2 sensor?

My friend Tim C and I made our own MIL eliminators. Dont remember the part numbers but we were able to buy everything needed at Radio Shack for about 6 dollars. We used a small project Case and some hotglue.

His and his brother in laws (2001 GT Convert) are working great. Mine on the other hand doesnt. Check engine light comes on every now and then, setting a 02 sensor/possible missfire code.
