Installing Heads!!!

I would like to know if I can install Cobra heads onto a 97 GT, and if so, do I need to do any other mods in able for it to work?
Thanks for your help.

What model Cobra are the heads? You will need the Cobra intake as well. I don't know that you can since the Cobra is a 4v DOHC and the GT is a 2v SOHC. You'd have to have the cobra cams and stuff, too.

For all the work and parts it would take it wouldn't be worth it. You still won't have anything close to a Cobra motor (forged crank and pistons, aluminum block, etc.) Just install a set of 99+ GT heads. They are a steal at $350 eachfor complete new heads w/ cams and the whole she-bang. I actually believe that the 2001GT heads are produced at the Romeo(sp?) plant and should bolt up even easier to our blocks.

In addition to the heads and intake, you also need a new timing chain cover, timing chains, computer, wiring harness ect. And 91LX2Bfast is right, even if you did do it all, you still wouldn't be putting out the same power as a Cobra motor. Cobra heads + GT short blocks makes for low compression.

It would be both cheaper, and more productive if you switched either to the 99 GT PI heads and intake, or just bought a crate motor.

The 96-98 GT's have the same motor. I own a 96 and was looking to change the heads/cam/intake as well. Will an after market throttle body for a 96-98 GT still work with a 99+ intake? Where is the best place to purchase the whole new intake and how much would it run for the parts?
