jumped my mustang a few times
and wanted to know what could posibly go wrong, and possibly break.... i'm thinking the suspension will take the most trauma, but what will actually would have problems.
i go about 75 mph when i hit the jump and get around 3 feet in the air... land slightly early on the right side of the car most times as the physical dynamics of the jump..... I know it is not the best.... but so damn fun... any thoughts as to problem prevention and breakage? Torinalth

umm, im not sure if im correct in this statement but when u say landing slightly early on the right side, i would think there could be a chance of bending the frame of the car since its only a unibody construction, and im sure most of the suspension will take a beating from this.
if you really like to jump cars you should go buy a POS and go nuts on it, i knew someone with a caravelle that used to jump it alot, and he fucked that car up pretty good, just a thought but u could mess up your mustang,

If you really want to jump the car, make sure you've got Koni's or at least some nice KYB's. I would say strut tower braces too, so your car doesn't flex, the shocks do. Anything else you can do to take the body flex out is good, k-members, etc.

I don't jump my stang, but it is very low and the roads around here are horrible, so I can tell you that the oil pan and crossover pipe will be the first things to hit if you land too hard.

I did it once without intending to... I jumped a small ditch in an accident. I didn't hit any other cars and landed on soft dirt.
I bent my rear axle and my frame beyond repair. Both air bags came out too, destroying the passenger side window, the windshield, the rear view mirror, both side mirrors and not to mention a nasty bruise down my right arm. The car was deemed totalled.... then I bought the GT I have now. |

I have a 2001 F 150 that I used to jump. Let me tell you it isn't worth it! No matter what you do to your car you are still going to tear it up if you jump it. I had my truck all fixed up and jumping in the sand was no problem, however, when I decided to catch about 5 feet of air on hard dirt I bent the frame and deployed the air bags. I fixed everything myself so my dad wouldn't find out, and it still cost me close to $2k to fix, so it isn't worth it. My Lifted truck still does 0-60 in 7 seconds flat (used to be 6) but it won't ever be the same. Get some old car and do it in that, not a mustang. I recomend an old honda Civic, nothing could be more fun than thrashing an import.
