Post cold startup question? and one more..

My car used to startup first crank in the mornings, now it starts, then stumbles, and dies, but starts right back up? my air filter is recharged, in fairly good tune, except plugs and wires are a little old, any suggestions? tb and iab are clean.

One more question, i have an offroad h-pipe, and have the air tube intact, but have an old spark plug in the hole, but the back of the head needs to be plugged, anyone know a quick fix? and could i be leaking exhaust out the back of my head? cuz it sure sounds like its coming from somewhere around there.

thnx alot for the help given .

My '89 does the same exact thing! I was never worried about it. I just chalked it up to showing its age, but now that you mention it, it sure is a pain in the *** !
As for the exhaust leak, it IS an exhaust leak. The EGR is escaping out of the thermactor hole where the tube once connected. Plug the hole using a bolt and large washer. That should fix it.

It's not going to harm anything at all other than your EGR being inoperative. The exhaust that comes out of the hole goes throught the metal tube to the EGR vacuum solenoid, which isn't always open anyway, so in your case, it will be like the EGR solenoid is always closed. Have you thought about the fact that the lack of EGR may be hurting your cold-start performance? I guess it shouldn't, though, since EGR should only be operating once the engine is warm. Just a thought....
