just purchased 02GT
I just purchased a 2002 gt I didn't have a chance to take it to the track I know I shouldn't look at magazine times but I seen them run anywhere from a 14.7-15.1 can anybody give me an idea what they should run because I dont want to put any mods on before I know I could really dive the car. Thanks

Let me take a shot at this.
Probably the best way to tell about increases in hp is on a dyno. You really can't compare someone elses times to what you may run. There are a ton of variables that can cause different times - driving ability, track elevation/tempature, stick/auto, just to name a few. You could run a 15.0 one time and then do some mods and actually run slower after, does that mean the mods didn't work? No, it could then be a traction issue, or many others. Best thing to do is - break in the engine, then do a baseline on a dyno. Then after doing mods, you can re-dyno and compare the results. |
Once the car is correctly "broken in", my opinion is that the best place to learn is AT THE TRACK!
Once you have your 60 foots\launch down, expect to run low 14's.... |
From the Horses mouth
The best I ever run in a close to stock configuration was 14.144 @ 98.01 MPH ( I have since run 13.760 @ 98.69 - drag radials and gears helped me do this). My best advice, worry less about reaction and focus on your ET until you are somwhat consistant and can tell when to shift with your senses (touch, sound, sight - hopefully not smell) - to a point. Keep your eyes on the tach. Don't be afraid to take the tach to 5999 rpms. Mine has been down the track every week that it has been open this year with a grand total of 94 passes. There are 5 more weeks left for me to break 100. The best thing you can do as your first mods (if you are worried more about the track and less about the street) is rubber and gears. That gets you more consistancy. Get consistant then get horsepower.
