From the Horses mouth
The best I ever run in a close to stock configuration was 14.144 @ 98.01 MPH ( I have since run 13.760 @ 98.69 - drag radials and gears helped me do this). My best advice, worry less about reaction and focus on your ET until you are somwhat consistant and can tell when to shift with your senses (touch, sound, sight - hopefully not smell) - to a point. Keep your eyes on the tach. Don't be afraid to take the tach to 5999 rpms. Mine has been down the track every week that it has been open this year with a grand total of 94 passes. There are 5 more weeks left for me to break 100. The best thing you can do as your first mods (if you are worried more about the track and less about the street) is rubber and gears. That gets you more consistancy. Get consistant then get horsepower.
