Quick Fix ? Is There One?
Let me run down my mods first and maybe someone can answer my question.. I have a 91 LX with, MAC after-cat exhaust, BBK H-pipe (off-road), stock headers, MAC cold air induction fender mount kit, Edelbrock 70mm T.B. and EGR plate, Pro-M 75mm MAF Sensor, Kirban Adj. Fuel Press. Reg., everything else is pretty much stock except wires, plugs and things like that.. Here is my question, this week I installed the 70mm T.B. (I opened up the intake), fuel press. Reg. (set @ 42psi), 75mm MAF, and the H-pipe, and disconnected the battery for over 20 minutes. Why have I, what seems to be, lost some torque?? Is the exhaust to free flowing and the T.B. too big? I chose these components because I plan on adding a supercharger in the future.. Is there a quick fix too gain back some of my torque without removing any of my new parts... Any suggestions or comments would be great, thanks... |

To be honest I think your TB is too big for everything being pretty much stock. I added my 65mm about 3 months ago, and there really was no need for a bigger TB with my combo. But I did it for the same reason you did, future mods. I'd say go back to your stock Tb and see if that fixes your problem.

Good advice from Chris_H.
Sometimes, 'future mods' need to be done all at once and this is probably one of those times, at least as far as the TB goes. As Chris said; try re-installing the stock TB, that should fix your low-end torque problem. |

the tb, in conjunction with the open exhaust is the problem. putting your stock tb back on should help.

Thanks Guys, I'll give it a try once I get some new gaskets. The old ones ripped apart when I removed the stock T.B.

the 70mm TB has a slower velocity than the 65mm TB does i believe, which means you're getting less air into the chambers
use a 70mm if you're using a blower or turbos *i know i have a 70mm on mine, but the kid that had it b4 me put it on, and i don't have the money to do a 65mm* ------------------ SHaFTed 91GT, 2 chamber flows, dumps, 70MM BBK TB, K&N conical, Robert Shaw tstat, Hurst short throw, T5, 17" Lexani Roma wheels, 235/40/R17 on front, 255/45/R17 on back, mach1 hood, LX tail lights, bright red! |
