mach 1 HP
What do all you guys and gals think that the actual tested HP rating of the new 2003 Mach 1 will be? They say that the non-tested version is right at 300, but the actual will be over 300, what do all of you think? Lets here some ideas.
|
WELL... I HEARD THAT THE MACH 1 IS SUPPOSE TO BE REPLACING THE CURRENT COBRA.. WHICH IS 320HP. SINCE THE 03 COBRA IS A MASSIVE 390HP AND THE STOCK GT IS 260... THEY NEED SOMETHING IN THE MIDDLE. I THINK THAT IT SHOULD BE RIGHT AROUND THE 320 RANGE. I WOULD GO FOR THE 03 COBRA :D

I think thats a reasonable assumption. I checked the pics and right now I'm not to kewl on the look of the Mach 1. I'll have to see one in RL.
I like the shaker scoop itself, but not the hood, or the magnum 500 wheels. |
I think that the car looks pretty cool, but everyone has their own opinion and I respect that. The wheels are an easy fix though, I really do not care for them too much either. Does anyone know when ordering and availability begins?

I'll say it's going to be rated at around 320. I think the DOHC engine Ford is using is fundamentally the old Cobra engine w/ ram air. I've alredy heard good news about the new Cobras making more power than advertised. Paul Svinicki of Paul's HP dyno tested an '03 (Lucky) and it made 360 hp AT THE WHEELS! I figured it out and that's roughly 430 hp at the flywheel. SVT also brought by 2 new snakes without exhaust (only exhaust manifolds on) and they both made around 400 ponies at the wheels which means the exhaust is REALLY restrictive! Obviously Ford is trying to avoid another '99 Cobra incident and they are being really modest with their numbers. Lookout Viper and ZO6!

Hehe, 300hp. Yeah right. By the way, I would disagree that it's fundamentally the 01 Cobra engine.
The Mach 1 is getting custom camshafts, a revised intake, and a functional ram air hood scoop. Besides, the 01 Cobra's are really making more like 340hp+ at the crank. I would expect the Mach 1 to be seriously underrated, and that real output will be in excess of 350hp. The new Cobra has bascially been dynod at about 390RWHP. LOL. Yeah, 390hp alright, it's just listed at the wrong spot. Try 470 at the crank. To jp, why is the Cobra such a poor handling car in your opinion? It's certainly not having fully independant suspension at all 4 corners causing performance issues. It's going to be too heavy, that's for sure, but it'll be easy to drop weight, and a suspension kit isn't going to set anybody back more than 1k. So at 15k less than a Z06 or over $40k less than a Viper, with two more seats, in a different class, I'd have to say the Cobra will probably hold it's own just fine. |
Besides, the GT40 will be the car you should be comparing to the Viper and the Z06, and neither of those cars will have a prayer in hell of hangin around when that car returns. Just like the Ferrari's of previous, the domestic market is going to feel the GT40 in a real way.

I can't wait to just see them in person, especially the GT40! It seems like Ford has really took a turn over the last few years, going from conservative to downright brutal! Bring it on!
|
Anyway you look at it, both the Mach 1 and the Snake are both being seriously underated by Ford and that is a damn good thing! As for JP, the Cobra offers as good (if not better) performance, waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better interior, just as good handling/braking (not that care anyway I'm a drag racer), and better looks all for half the price.

Ford will prolly rate it at 300 to 310 not to offend the 99 and 01 Cobra guys..
JMHO! Jim V.:) |
They recently ran the Mach 1's at a track, the article is posted on LS-1.com. The guy from Pauls High Performance got the stock Mach 1 to run 12.87 if I remember correctly, at somewhere around 105-107 MPH. (My memory sucks..I just read the article not to long ago)

That is much faster than I expected for that car are you sure.... Elliot Ness |
I don't think it's a whole lot faster than what I expect. Take a look at the 01 DOHC Cobra. It's a 13.5 car, and a 12sec car with 4.10 or 4.30 gears. Give it 3.55s (not enough, but better than 3.27s), different cams, ram air, and a different intake.
Regardless, the pricing hasn't even been released on the car, and I doubt LS1.com got their hands on one before the rest of the auto industry. Anybody else notice the ridiculous 5800rpm redline in the prototype interior shots? LOL. |
They have the article..Its there. Look and see. And yes. I'm sure it broke into the 12's I wasnt seeing things. Cant remember the exact times.
LS-1.com had the Mach one release before any other site I seen. At least a day before any other one. I find that intersting since its a GM site. It wasnt LS-1.com or a GM magazine that got there hands on them, they showed up at a Track and ran. They were in Fords possession. |
