Car pulls harder after cleaning engine?!
As you can see from my profile, my GT is mostly stock with a few basics. This weekend I had the hood opened and I was cleaning the engine with simply green(first time i cleaned it). I didn't really take anything apart, battery stayed connected. Well after I cleaned it I went cruising and I seem to have freed some ponies! The car pulls faster after 2250rpm. It starts to really take off now and I can chirp tires in second. WTF!? Tomorrow I am going to wax it to see if that does anything Oh well just figured I would share.

Of course it's faster.
Less dirt = less weight = faster stang. The wax will make it aerodynamic increasing your trap speed. You should drop at least a second in the 1/4. ----------------------------------------- '79 Mustang Coup w/ 4" Cowl Stock 5.8L, C4 w/ shift kit Holley 750 cfm, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake 1 5/8" MAC shorty headers, Al driveshaft 2.5" Off road H-pipe, 2-chamber Flowmasters Front: 225/60/15, Rear: 255/60/15 Eagle GT II Weld wheels (15x6;15x8), 8.8" Rear w/ 3.55s 14 x 4” K&N air filter (getting the Xtreme setup someday) "Red, thou art my companion. I agree w/ fox body.....it's all about the drag coefficient! Clean the wheels too, then watch out!

I hear that the Ferrai red paint gets you 5 seconds, and an extra 10mph top speed. I gotta get some of that.

Dont know about ya'll, I detail my engine every weekend for shows. I dont cover or disconnect anythingj!! Simple green (not on chrome) and wheel brush work wonders in those hard to reach places.Watch for waterspots!! I hose the whole engine down to get out the dust and grime that builds up throughout the week. You could probably eat off it if you wanted.
Maybe it does make it lighter. Like I said in "Jenny Craig" Weighing in at either 3700 or 3900( I forgot) I need all the help I can get. Maybe a little more Armorall will help with the Aerodynamics?????? ------------------ 1994 GT.Convertible/Performance Red. Cold Air Ind.,K&N,H.P. If anyone noticed I posted a blown clutch post on the windsor form. Aparently my car wasn't any faster after cleaning the engine, it was just the rpms climbing higher quicker because the clutch was slipping and then catching higher some times.
Sorry to dissapoint anyone who might have tried cleaning this car over the week to get some extra HP out of it. Scott ------------------ 1992 GT 5.0L Convertible BBK Shorties, Flowmasters, Super Chip, Mass Air, Under Drive Pullies, Hurst Shifter, Duck Tape AIM: SmokeyDP |

Man, and I spent all week cleaning my engine compartments. I even waxed the intake and coil packs.
Who would of known wax is flammable? I came up with this great idea. Who needs a spoiler, when your getting ready for a high speed race, just grab your little key thingy and pop the trunk, or the hatch. Thats good for some awesome downforce. I'm going to put hydraulics on my trunk, so the faster I go, the more it opens. Oh yeah buddy. |
