Wink My first run in with detonation....

Well, I was out running Yellowjacket last night. All was going well and I wasn't paying attention to my fuel state...

I got on it and at about 5000rpm I got my first taste of detonation, at the time I didn't know what it was. So I let it go back down to 2500 and got on it again... same thing. Except this time I monitored my fuel pressure guage.... I was definately going lean. Then it hit me.... detonantion! I checked my fuel and there it was: on Empty with the fuel low light staring me in the face....

I pulled in a gas station, filled my tank and ran her at idle for a while to make sure 'ol Yeller was OK. No vacuum leaks, no freaky idle... I lucked out. Thanks goodness I'm not running high boost.

I guess you can call that a lesson learned.

Question

Hey Hammer,

Did the fuel low light just start on the '98 models? Or was it an option somehow on the 96-97's? Not a big deal, I just don't have one on my '96.

Wow!
Sounds like you got lucky Hammer. I'll remember that when my fuel gets low.
"Detonation" scares me so bad..I cringe when someone mentions it.

380rwhp! Damn thats nice, should propel you down into the 11's. Is that after all the tuning? How much did they gain you? And how much boost?
