New Guy w/ Check Engine light?

My Uncle has a '96 Cobra that is bone-stock. The check engine light comes on, then goes off, then will stays on, goes off etc. But it doesn't blink. We changed the plugs and the light went off for a while, then came back on. He even had the Computer reset this morning. But by the afternoon the light was back on. The mlies are 48K. I think it might me the O2 sensors...am I close? Also, how many o2 sensors are on the car with the stock (Yes, restrictive 4-cats) exhaust system? thanks in advance!

You should have 4 o2 sensors, 2 upfront before your cats and 2 after your last cats. If any or all are bad you'll get that light. Any loss of power that you can tell???

There are about 500 things that can turn the light on, Take your pick.
Or you could get it checked by someone with an OBDII scanner. A lot cheaper then throwing parts at it.

We bought the scanner today and received a code 1443, the 1 is for a manufacturer code. So I guess the code is 443. The Chilton's manual is out-dated and of no help for the 4.6's. Any idea what code 443 could be???

Try this link. It shows an evap code which means you most likely have a sticking purge solonoid. The code should be a P1443. Thats the way OBDII codes are stored. Hope this helps.

Yes, it is the vacume valve for the canister.
