Default New user with a few questions

Hello every one,

I joined here almost a week ago and have been trying to read as much as I can. I recently purchased a '02 GT after becoming dangerously close to getting ricey with a Honda. Tragedy averted however.

Here are may main questions that I would appreciate any help/opinions on:

I want to get a short shifter, does anyone have any reccomendations?

My end game is to go S/C at some point so I don't want to do any mods that would interfere with that process. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your time,

Joe

I'm going thru the same process. I originally thought I'd go N/A so I bought some Steeda U/D Pulleys (never put them on) and was getting ready to buy their Timing Adjuster, headers, exhaust, P&P heads, etc. As I started figuring out the cost to build a strong N/A motor versus F/I I changed my plan and bought a Paxton Novi 1000 (it will be installed next week !). More bang for the buck. As for a Short Throw Shifter I'm going with the Steeda. As for the first mod I'd recommend gears (either 3.73's or 4.10's).

I'd say go with the Steeda tri-ax for the short throw, and 3.73's so you still have some traction when you get the blower. Other than that maybe a bullitt intake, some nitto dr's, and exhaust.

Default Steeda TriAx... 3650?

Hello and thanks for the quick replies. It looks like I'm going to start with the short shifter. They have a "new" (haven't looked before) 3650 for later models (mines an 02). Is there any reason not to go ahead with these?

Thanks again!

i haven't looked recently, but it sounds like it's refering to the transmission type. A 3650 would be a 6-speed. Right now the 03 Cobra is the only stang with the 6-speed (unless converted). I think you need to find one for a 3450. I have an automatic, so I'm not positive on this. I'm sure someone will be able to give you the right answer if I'm wrong.

I also have an "02 GT with a 5-speed 3650. You want the Tri-ax for the 3650.

For whoever was confused, the six speed is a T56, the 3650 is the 5-speed found in '02 and up stangs.

You can't go wrong with either the Steeda or Pro 5.0 shifters. I have the Steeda Tri-Ax myself and am very happy with it.

I'm the guilty one. Sorry about that. I knew there was a 5 and a 6 in there somewhere. I must be dyslexic (sp?). Anyways, sorry about the confusion.

Whissbomb,

I have an 02 GT as well and I have come to the same conclusion to get Blown. I wanted to stay N/A as well but started adding up all of the parts and labor and figured for a few extra $$ I could get much more HP. I have a set of 3.73 (yet to be installed).

You may also want to consider getting a new exhaust--I am considering a Magnaflow--cat back w/ 3 in tips.

Where in MD are you? I'm near College Park.

Good Luck.

Rob

I'm in Rockville now, may be moving to Gaithersburgh. I ended up getting the Pro 5.0 and am REALLY liking it. I also removed the air filter silencer, changed the windsheild wiper profile and am getting a K&N filter. Baby steps right? Thanks guys for all your help.

Just out of curosity, how many people do their own labor? I put in the short shifter myself but that was the first labor I've ever done.

Thanks,

Joe
