First Mods

I'm new to the mustang community I just got my first , a 90gt 5spd and did the basic tune up and removal of the air silencer and bumped up the timing a but now i'm lookin into other mods, the car is my daily and I would like to know what are some good starter mods that I can get with this car i'm lookin to get into low 13's and I would be very happy, any suggestions would help.

The very first mods I got were headers, off-road pipe, flowmaster cat backs, 65mm throttle body, pulleys, and K&N.

I don't know the times however since I didn't run the car till a few more mods.

I say go for exhaust system first, since it will sound better and perform a little better. Good luck!

I would say go for the exhuast (h-pipe and cat back, dont really need headers yet). A cold air kit would be good too plus it would look sweet (still gotta get one...) The most bang for your buck would be 3.73 or 4.10 gears. (3.73's... another thing on my list).

3.73's were by far the best bang for my buck. I ordered them from ford and had my brother install them in his high school shop class. i think it was like 175 bucks or 210...something like that.

exhaust is another good one. i personally love the flowmaster sound, but there are lots of good exhaust systems out there. just recently i heard about raven mufflers. has anyone else heard of them? they're supposed to outflow dynomax, flowmaster, borla, everybody.......

I agree with: Gears, and Exhaust - next would be an aftermarket shifter (Pro 5.0 is awesome, and Steeda Tri-Ax looks good too).

You may want to consider Underdrive pulleys too, but I would not recommend them unless you upgrade your alternator the the 130A 3G (over the ~65A stock unit).

Gears, the factory gears suk..

(unless you like driving slow to go get groceries)..

and here i am telling you "gears" and i don't have any of my own.

Scrapla:

3.55 or 3.73 rear gears are the most rewarding modification you can make for performance over stock. Get a PRO 5 0 or similar aftermarket shifter at the same time because you'll need it to keep up with the rapid climb to the redline with the new gears.

Everybody wants exhaust for the sound but in fact, the real bottleneck in the exhaust system are the catalytic converters.

Get the H-pipe (replaces converters) or if you have to pass emissions, go for a high-flow cat system (expensive but a good alternative). I like Dynomax mufflers but those are really more about sound than performance. Headers are optional with the stock heads and can be put off for awhile.

A cold-air fenderwell kit is optional at over $100. but I have a Moroso kit ($95.) that I like. It looks good, too.

Underdrive pullies are a good modification. Some have charging and cooling problems - some don't. Worth trying for about $100.

Think about getting sub-frame connectors, too. Good investment. No HP gains but vastly improved handling and launching, especially on an older 'Stang. Around $100.

1) Gears. I love my 3.73s
2) Shifter. Pro-5.0, Steeda
3) Subframe connectors
4) underdrive pulleys
5) High flow H-pipe and cat back.

Don't forget what get's the power to the ground. Tires. With a goal of low 13's and a daily driver, I assume you'll be going to the track occasionally. Switching from 2.73's to 3.73's and from street tires to Mickey Thompson ET Streets dropped my 1/8 mile times from 9.36 to 8.78 which equates to around 13.7 in quarter. Since it's a daily driver, be careful with tires like the ET streets, rain makes for a not-too-pleasant commute. Maybe a drag radial would work better for you. I agree with what everyone else said above as well. Since your new to the Mustang community, you'll just have to go to the track, see what times you run with the car, then figure out how to get it to hook. Even with a stock car, just getting it to hook and put most of the power to the ground, you can see some really good times.

4) Drag Radials (with steeper gears, traction becomes a BIG problem)

Try these:
Bassini exhaust system ( nascar currently uses this)
3.73 to 4.10 rear end gears
Good set of headers ( I installed Hedman Headers)
Cold air induction system
Tremec 5 transmission ( mine shifts great)

This list goes on and on, that's when you get into some serious money, so go by how much you can afford.
