Coil on plug 2001 Bullitt

First one to post!!! not really
2001 Bullitt 4.6L SOHC coil on plug.
That's car I'm having issues with. The car is cutting out like it has a bad spark plugs. Not all the time though. It runs fine until it gets warm. Then it cuts out under any kind of load. The check engine light never comes on. I'm getting frustrated with this darn thing.
problem: Cuts only when warm, acts like there is bad spark plugs.
a: replace all coils $400.00, use msd not factory stuff
b: replace all spark plugs.....got denso iridium plugs, still cuts out
c: mass-air meter has took a dump
d: sell car
e: blow up use gap insurance....no I'd replace engine before then
So please, help me out... do you have an idea?

Go get the codes scanned, it may have stored some codes even if the CEL didn't come on. I'd also try cleaning the MAF sensor.

1st get rid of the irridium and get just reg. copper plugs .... clean the Mass air with a non clorinated brake cleaner.... if its a bad coil it should throw a miss fire code and there is no need to use those MSD,ACCEL ect ect coils they are not need till you are push major amounts of boost and maybe try and replace the fuel filter

thoes things always have bad coils ....if u wanna save urself some trouble get the thing scaned ....if the mass air was bad or dirty it will cut out not skip or miss like its a bad plug ....dont use any thing but mass air cleaner to clean it if u do..its 6 bucks at part stores just do it right dont use brake clean...i would put money on it being a coil....there not much money for a new coil but u have to get it scanned to find out what coil is bad..you can do an ohm test but that doesnt always work

and what is wrong using brake clean.... I have been using it for over 10 years with no problems.....

come to think of it I am running over 10psi on the stock coils with over 75k and they are 7 years old and they are fine.... so saying they always go bad is BS

maybe change spark plug wires before changing the coils. be a lot cheaper

Re: Coil on plug 2001 Bullitt

I was a service writer at a Ford dealership for years and we saw this problem often- and most times it was ford's great fuel pumps. Some focus cars had a recall on it.... but basically when the pump gets hot it starts bogging down and cutting out, which can cause a misfire feel. Look into your fuel pressure... but if it was spark related, it would definitally throw a missfire code and your check engine light would at least come on when it was acting up.
