What's the difference?

Ok...I've spent my whole life around regular "pushrod" engines but this whole modular thing is pretty new to me. Would any of you be so kind as to fill me in on what the differnce is between the two engines? Thanks guys

Well on the pushrod engines the cam is abouve the crank, but below the heads. Lifters sitting on the cam will push up the pushrods to open the valves.

The modular engine has an "overhead cam" which sits on top of the head. It pulls the valves open and closed.
The Cobra 4v Dual Over Head Cam (DOHC) enginehas two cams per head (one for intake & 1 for exhaust).

Also the 99 GT's do not have a fuel return line so there is no need for a Fuel Management Unit.

Modular motor makes its power at higher RPMs - the pushrod lower.

I was disappointed when I got my 4.6 because I thought that it had no power. Once I learned how to drive it that attitude changed. Don't be afraid to rev the snot out of it!

Wow...that's actually a lot more simple than I thought. Not bad. Maybe some day I'll consider a mod motored GT after I get rid of my '84 GT350. Have any of you guys seen the new information exchange plan from Ford? I'm sure that'll mean a lot more aftermarket parts for the 4.6L. I also hope they keep the 5.0L modular from the FR500. Thanks for the info guys. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif

well 84GT350, in 2003 Ford will be putting in the 5.0l modular engine in the Cobra! So get used to it!
