2004 Stangs Back to 5.0??
Hey fellow Stangfans..
I was at my local Ford dealer today, discussing prices for a 2000 Mustang GT. I was this close to signing the deal, when I asked him if they were going to bring the 5.0's back? He said in 2004 they are bringing the GT's back to 5.0, with a new body style. Is this correct, and if so, where can I get a sneak peak at the new style? Thanks a lot! |
The some what comfirmed rumor right now is that the Cobra will switch to the 5.0L spray bore block that is in the FR500 with in the next couple of years. I haven't heard, but it makes a lot of sense, for the GT to follow suite.
Its not the 302 Windsor, Ford no longer has the tools to mass produce Windsor engines. They will be based on the current modular block and heads. But expect the GTs to be in the 300 hp range, and the Cobras to be in the 350-400 range. |
that's right. its 5.0 displacement but an overhead cam motor. boy would that thing scream.
|
Good deal! They need to step up to the plate alittle with power output...
|
the Cobra is supposed to have a 5.0 DOHC, 350+hp 340+ torque
the GT will either have a 4.6 with 285hp 310tq or a 4.9 with 295hp 320tq some changes to the v6's too, didn't pay much attention to that though http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif It's gonnna go to the Lincoln LS platform, and be called the S197 or something (as opposed to SN95) I saw all this on BON |
Thats what I heard too, going to the Lincoln
LS platform called the "dew platform" as far as the engine displacement I haven't heard a thing. ------------------ Black 99 GT 3.73 gears Mac power chamber 2 chamber Flows Mac cold air induction steeda tri-ax Nitto drag radials 13.62 @ 109 (using a G-tech pro) http://www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/MediaDL.cgi?Home_Video+movies+Black99GT-burnem+mpg |

From what I've read and inferred, the new platform will be great, supension, weight, balance, ect, besides it needs some fairly simple bracing. Strut tower brace, under carriage in the subframe area, ect. Other then that, it is apparently a very good performance platform.
Like when ever Mustangs make a signifigant change there are always the doomsday nay sayers, but I think the new platform will be much better then the current one. |
