K%N filters
Now I bought this car used(98 GT) not to long ago. I just went down to take off the silencer and apparently the previous owner already did it. So there is a gap between that huge black cover(filter cover) and the beginning opening of my front fender. ok...the car has a K&N filter in it. the casing around the filter has a orange sticker with K%N on it. Do these cars come stock with K&N or do I need to upgrade from a stock K%N to another kind if there is even such a thing?

No, K & N's are not stock, but they might as well be since that's the first thing any of us does! Sounds like the previous owner put it in for you. What self-respecting Mustang owner doesn't put in a K & N? http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

K&N filters aren't stock but do you know what they look like vs. a stock filter? Just because the sticker is on there doesn't mean that's what's inside (previous owner could have kept it). The stock ones are made of paper and the rubber base of the filter is orange and with a black cone at the top of it. The K&N has a black base and has a metal screen around the outside of the filter w/reddish cotton fiber on the inside. It will also say K&N on the flat top of it.
