Shocks and Struts
I am planning on lowering my '99 GT soon. I was looking up prices on shocks/struts and come across Tokico shock/struts, they want $420 for the set which is kinda out of my price range. I then seen some KYB Gas shocks can anyone give me a price on those and if they are any good? Also what is the difference between adjustable and non-adjustable? Which type is best with saving money in mind? I have heard that when you lower your car you should lower the front more than the back, is that true or can you just lower it the same all the way around?
Thanks, Beth |
Beth,
The KYB's are fine if you just want better all around performance for the street or mild track. I think I got the set(fronts, rears and quad shocks) for alot cheaper than going with Tokico or other better or more expensive adjustables. I don't like to mess with my set up so the KYB's work for me. Better handling but noticeably harsher than stock but not too bad. As far as lowering goes, all the kits take the work and thinking out of the equation for you so all you have to do is pick the height and decide whether you want specific weight or progressive springs. I like specific but if you pick the wrong ones you're kind of screwed so go with progressives on a street car. good luck! I just got a quote from shox.com. Tokico Hi-Performance SHs&STs for $299. Not too bad!

Beth, check out the "Which Springs" post that's posted by Immortality.
Adjustables: you can adjust the stiffness of the shock/strut. Non-adjustables: self explanitory www.tokico.com/ www.koni.com/ If you are not doing a bunch of road racing then the non-adjustables will work fine. I would go with the non-adjustable Tokicos if it were me. Those would be the ones that TruBlu01 posted the price for. Tokico also sells a spring/shocks/struts package as well. ------------------ 1994 Red SVT Lightning #2019 |
