ROOTS TYPE BLOWER???
1. What is a roots type blower ? 2. where can I get one ? 3. what do they cost? 4. what kind of gains? 5. Please provide any links to it. |
1. What is a roots type blower ? "Roots" style blowers are twin rotor designs that mount on the top of the engine. They are belt driven off of the crank. These range from the original gmc style blowers that have evolved into the superchargers found on Top Fuel/Funny Car engines to the latest blowers that come on the Saleen/Roush/Lightning vehicles. 2. where can I get one ? I'm under the assumption that you will be using it on your 4.6 engine. Non-intercooled kits are available from FRPP (Ford Motorsport), Kenne-Bell, Saleen, etc. Intercooled kits are available from Saleen, Allen Engine Development and Roush is supposed to be offering one soon. 3. what do they cost? Anywhere from $2500 to $4000. Depends on manufacturer and which model. 4. what kind of gains? These kits are usually designed for lower engine speeds. Roots blowers make boost "right now". Gains are usually in the 70-140 hp range. However, the newfound power is low in the rpm range which makes them ideal for street cars. 5. Please provide any links to it. Don't have any handy. Websites are easy to find on these manufacturers. FRPP, Saleen, Allen Engine Development, Eaton. Kenne-Bell has a site under construction but there's not much info. There is a site that is hosted by KB customers. Lots of info and tips. Run a search on "Kenne-Bell" and it'll be listed. The above answers the questions pretty straight forward.
Mine is the FRPP/SVO unit and it's found on their website. Link: http://www.fordracing.com/performanceparts/ Look under the parts section.Part Type - supercharger kits. Some other notable links for Roots blowers.... Links: http://www.allenengine.com./blowerpge.html http://www.kenne-bell.com/ non-offical site mentioned above. Does anyone know the HP numbers for the saleen blower and what the PSI is set at? Also the ford blower makes 55hp at 6 PSI. At doesn't sound like alot of power if it costs around 3k. Does anyone know the price of the ford, and what does it take to increase the boost for more power?
|
The Ford blower doesn't advertise much power gain. But always remeber you can make more boost, and produce more power. Very easily. The price is somewhere around $1025 for the blower, then you have to buy the install kit. It is also somewhere around $1025

What Shannon said! :D

i know a mustang nut who said that FRPP parts are always underrated and he said that the 55hp claim of ford with the blower is conservative to say the least. and its on a stock car.
he said mild modded car, with good intake/exhaust airflow mods could expect 75hp or so... but thats just his [experienced] opinion. |
I believe you can get a little more than thought out of that blower. Bigger PULLEY.
