5.0 Power Steering Pumps

I went to purchase a replacement P.S. pump at the store and found that there are different part numbers for this pump, based upon year. Does anyone know how the 5.0 power steering pump varies from year to year? Thanks.

The power steering pump itself shouldn't be any different from year to year. The only differences are in the pulleys, some may use a little different pulley size or something. Actually all Ford steering pumps are about the same, I got mine from a salvage yard off an old crown vic. All I did was swap pulleys because they were diffent sizes, and it bolted right up to my brackets and is still working today. I got the pump 6 years ago and it was already a few years old when I got it.

I am about to do a pump install and my Haynes manuel says I need a power steering pump pulley remover tool. Did you guys use anything like this?

Yes, you will need a special tool for removal of the pulley. I think you need it for installation as well, if I remember correctly. (I did this last year.) I borrowed one, but Lisle or somebody like that makes the tool. Good luck!
