Headers and cat back...
Hey all,
I want to install a supercharger in the future. I am thinking about doing the exhaust beforehand so that I can spread the $ out over a little time. I know that to utilize the full power of a blower, I need to get the charge cooled and in easy, and I need to get the exhaust gases out in a nice tuned, non-restrictive manner. So, here we go... What would be your recommendations for exhaust on a soon to be supercharged 4.6L? I know headers a must, and I want to be legal and without service engine lights(also no dumby O2 sensors, want puter to be able to correctly control air/fuel mix and tuning). Thanks for your opinions and experience. |
JBA short tubes headers, Bassani 2-cat X-pipe and Flowmaster or MAC catback is a nice setup. Headers are a pain on the 4.6's though.

header pains
I can imagine, I remember how much of a pain the long tubes were on a 331 ci block being put into a 91 Mustang. The joy. But as long as it can be done in a weekend, I am game. Thanks...

question about the long tubes.... do they really sit below the body of the car? so if I bottom out the headers will eat it?

yup, I have seen many a mustang with the headers that limit their ground clearance. On the same 91 mustang witht the 331ci i always mention, it would scrape the headers on the trailer edge when loading and unloading. Had to put 2x10s on the back of the trailer to get the bottoms of the tubes to clear the edge.

do all long tubes hang like that on the newest body? I want to get all the performance possible, but I'm lowering the car a bit to tune the suspension, and need the clearance....

I dunno about the newer models...Haven't seen one with long tubes yet.
