You're paying too much...
Autolite coppers work just fine... |
well actually i work at autozone and get 20% off on them.
is there any spark plug that is better than the rest? |
To be honest, I don't think there's much of a difference between major brands, and in most applications, much of a difference between coppers and platinum.
Marketing hype... Now I wouldn't be buying plugs from the "bargain bin" that have brand names you've never heard of... While all plug gaps will expand over time due to heat.... some cheapies can get a REALLY bad expansion... I have over 30k miles with my blower running on Autolites, and they still look fine.... Now THAT'S not hype... ;) |
the question was in reference to maybe NGK spark plugs or other name brand plugs?
|
In close to stock applications, any major brand name will be just fine for your use. If you wanna pay extra for NGK, go for it....
Will you see any difference in performance? I doubt it... |
thanks thats the answer i was looking for.

I've actually heard a handful of complaints on the boards from people that have used the Bosch +4. I've tried plenty of the plugs out there and I've seen the best results with NGK copper, TR-55's(stock heat range).

Here goes...my recent experience.
I replaced my stock plugs at 50,000 miles with Bosch Platinum +4's.....My car had a VERY hard miss from idle to 2500 rpm's after the install. A month later, I replaced the +4's with NGK's, what a world of difference. Now my car purrrs smoother than my Crown Vic..it is genuinely scary. NGK has discontinued the TR55VX's and replaced them with the TR55IX (iridium). You can still get what's left of the VX's and the IX's are $7.59 at NAPA auto parts. As far as performance, slight gain (sotp) but the gas mileage went from 250 miles a tank to about 300 miles. It was worth it for me, I can't get over how well the car runs now...better than new. Good luck on your decision... |
Have to confirm Red's comments about NGK's. I just had a SC installed and asked what plugs I should be using in my maintenance routine. If you have a SC I was told by my speed shop NOT to use platinums. I had them replace my original equipment plugs with what they recommended.....and guess what they put in....NGK's, and I haven't had any issues with them.
