selling 2 stangs to get 99 cobra

hey guys im new to the modular and don't really know anything about them. I really like the 99 cobra. I have a 88 lx with a 306 and I have a 89 gt that I am going to sell so that I can get enough money to buy the cobra. I was wondering how much horse power the 99 cobras make in stock trim. when I get the cobra I would like to make 320 horses at the wheels with bolt ons like tim lester did.

i believe they make 320 flywheel from the factory, i'd just put some exhaust on it and supercharge it, from what i hear the mod motors love boost. just a suggestion;)

The 99 cobra after the recall is fixed should make. 320 HP and 317 TQ.

They typically make 270RWHP stock.

Just add some gear and do the exhaust and you have a 12 second beast.

I am going with LT Headers, O/R X-pipe, pullies and a custom chip. I am hoping for 310RWHP.

Here is a good tip..........The 1st mod you should do is go to the Ford House and order an 03' Cobra pinion brace. It really helps get rid of the wheel hop.

Oh.....and leave the air silencer in there. When I removed mine I ran a mph slower in the 1/4.

Later.

I have a 99 with the fix and the Vortech Supercharger with aftercooler. I am seeing much more than 320 at the wheels;) . Good choice on the 99's, fantastic cars, and respond VERY well to forced induction!

thanks guys for all of the replys. That was another question that I forgot to ask.-- will the stock crank and pistons work with a supercharger. I was planning on in the future a ati procharger with intercooler, but for now when I get it the first thing will prob. be exhaust, then gears, and the other bolt ons. I think the main problem is going to be finding the cobra. thanks again.

also what is the recall that needs to be fixed

Rice Hunter 01-15-2003 12:37 PM

My engine is all stock save for the supercharger kit, you should be fine. The recall dealt with a horsepower issue. The exhaust was more restricted than originally planned.. I believe. The fix just frees it up so the HP number is at 320 at the flywheel. At least that's what they told me;) Mine was already fixed when I bought it, the people at the shop said that was what it was. You will most likely find a fixed one by now anyway.

The recall was the upper intake manifold. The fix involved hone extruding the upper to make it flow right.

Chevysucks 01-15-2003 05:25 PM

Dark_5.0 I guess it really wont matter if it is fixed or not when I get it because I plan on adding a new intake manifold.

There is a 99 cobra for sale here in Odessa for $23,000.00. It is black with the silver wheels.

You should be able to get one for $20,000.00 with low miles.

Good luck,

Just which intake manifold were you planning on purchasing?

I THINK there might be a new Ford Motorsport DOHC intake, but it may only be for the 96-98 vehicles. I'm not sure because I don't have my FMS catalogue with me right now....

Chevysucks 01-16-2003 11:49 AM

Hammer: I don't know which intake manifold I plan on purchasing, all I know is that when I get the car I would like to put one on. Like I said before I am new to the modular stangs and I don't know much about them. I have had 4 fox bodies, and i know allot about them.

Dark_5.0 01-16-2003 11:52 AM

My guess is after you drive it you will realize that it has plenty of power and just needs gears and suspension work.

Chevysucks 01-16-2003 06:26 PM

my goal is 12.8's with the bolt on's.

Dark_5.0 01-16-2003 08:28 PM

There is a guy with a 99 cobra vert running 12.40's @109mph. He has a GT rear with 4.56 gears and slicks with open exhaust.

12.8 should be easy;)
