How do I run 13's?

I have a 98 GT Convertible, What does it take for me to run 13's???

mustanggt_50 02-09-2003 10:51 PM

you car is quite heavy, you didnt mention whether is a 5spd or auto???
anyways, go with some gears, underdrive pullies, slicks, timing adjuster, try to do some weight reductions. headers, and full exhaust. im sure others can extend on this,

have you been to the track yet, and if so what did you run before??

98GtPower 02-10-2003 01:08 AM

I have manual, and i haven't been to the track...what about a procharger and 2000 head conversion(heads, cams, intake) porting and polishing, gears, racing clutch and street legal slicks?

If you do a 99+ head swap, and a blower, you'll need to do some serious work.

Step 1. Port the heads, to increase the size of the combustion chamber.
Step 2. Attach blower and blow up bottom end.
Step 3. Rebuild wiht Forged internals, at 8.5:1.
Step 4. Turn up the boost and hold on.

You're not going to see 13 without a power adder in that car. At least not if you plan on driving it daily. It's too darn heavy. Work on seeing 14's first.

No way! I totally disagree. With a PI head swap, and gears, you should run 13's easy. If you can drive that is. You dont need a power adder but it wouldn't hurt.

You are not going to pick up 1.5 seconds doing a simple head and gear change. Fox lake stage III heads and 4.30 gears might get that much off alone.

the PI head swap bumps your compression to 11:1. If you wanna add a blower on top of that, you've got bigger balls than me.

My suggestion......get blown.

I have a lot of questions here:
" Attach blower and blow up bottom end."????
"Rebuild wiht Forged internals, at 8.5:1."???

Also, does the 98 Cobra engine have really high compression and needs to be lowered to safely add a power adder (supercharger) on a daily driver???

Also in my earlier post I said "Procharger" which means an intercooled supercharger.

Ok when you swap 99 and up heads onto a 96-98 4.6 liter it bumps the compression up to 11:1. This is because the 96-98 motors use a flat-top piston, while the 99 and up motors use a dished one.

So if you throw a blower onto a 96-98 motor that's had the PI head swap done to it, it's probably gonna blow the motor.

So if you wanna run a blower on a 96-98 motor with a PI head way you need to rebuild the bottom end with forged internals that lower the compression to a blower friendly 8.5

No the 98 Cobra doesn't not have really high compression

Procharger's kick ***......what are you doing reading this, you should be out buying one!!!;)

98GtPower 02-10-2003 11:40 PM

Then should I just get a Cobra engine I have been eyeballing (28k miles, $3600 after install) and get a ProCharger? Or would I have to get forged parts for the Cobra engine too?

Hammer 02-11-2003 12:32 AM

There's always something called motorsport heads and intake... then feel free to stick a blower on... ;)

tireburner163 02-11-2003 02:25 AM

you don't have to have forged internals to run a blower on a GT. You just can't have a blower AND a PI head swap.

Cobra motor for 3600 installed doesn't sound bad.

98GtPower 02-11-2003 02:44 AM

So it would be safe to get the Cobra engine drop it in and put a Procharger putting out 8-10 psi. Or am i gonna be ending up with a broken car after a couple of races.

tireburner163 02-13-2003 12:03 AM

8-10psi should be no problem.
