Clutch
Just had new tires installed on a 1996 Mustang GT. The mechanic who installed the tires said we need a new clutch. He said the clutch slips in 5 th gear. Is it better to repalce with OEM parts or after market parts. Do you replace flywheel, pressure plate. clutch and throw out bearing all at the same time. Any recommendations on which cluthc assembly to buy. The car is used as a daily driver.

I would get an aftermarket clutch like a spec I or higher even if you're going to do some power upgrades. They not only last longer but they are also easier to engage.I'm still thinking which one i should get.The spec II,specIII or a king cobra. But i'm gonna supercharge my car so i NEED something with better grip.
Also when you buy a clutch they usually come with the clutch, the pressure plate, and the throw out bearing. As for the flywheel i dunno. If it's no good replace it. |
If a clutch slips, wouldn't it slip in all gears?
Edit: Seems if a clutch is slipping, you'd notice it more in the lower gears, 'cause you're getting on it more. |
I would think so.My clutch has slipped in every gear so far. Also how is your mechanic who just installed your tires suppsed to know wheather your clutch slips or not?Did he test drive it?If he did it shouldn't have slipped under normal circumstances.

I would recommend a RAM Powergrip set...
It held with the supercharged Yellowjacket quite well... RAM Powergrip |
