Post gear install problem

I'm just getting ready to remove the c-clips but this (s) shaped brace won't allow me to get the c-clips out. It doesn't even show up in any manuals. please help.

That spring holds tension against the gears. If I remember correctly you have to take a long bolt out of the carrier and pry the spring out.

you must loosen the pinion shaft lock bolt, remove it , then push in on the axle flange and remove the c-lock from the inner end of the axleshaft(a magnet is handy for this job)
