Question Weight reduction

What are some ways I can lighten my 96GTS. Keep in mind that it is a daily driver so things like seats and spare tire/jack are kind of important. Thanks

You might want to check out steeda.com, they have a bunch of light weight parts that will really help lighten the load and increase acceleration. Here are some of the essential parts that I found: 1. Ultra light wheels - reduce weight and rotating mass for improved acceleration, 2. Aluminum driveshaft - same as (1.), 3. Fiberglass and carbon fiber hoods - reduce front-end weight.
I'm sure there are more parts that will help your stang loose those extra pounds, but this should help you get started.

Tubular K-member, remove the A/C system, switch to a manual rack and remove the power steerimg pump. the sound deading mat material is quite heavy. I had a buddy that took all the sound deading material out of his 93 to offset the wieght off his roll cage. We wieghed it and it was over a 100 pounds. Sway bars are heavy too.

The front sway bar is like 32 lbs by itself. Replacing the K-Member is something like a 62 lb reduction. You can also replace all the acessories with manual. Manual rack, no AC, ect.

You can get it pretty light, its just a matter of rather or not the weight reduction is worth the inconveniance.

Hmmmm...all of the recommendations are good such as K-member and other chassis stuff. The wheels would be good, too. The key words I notice are DAILY DRIVER. I know mine is a daily driver too and I'd just as soon have my A/C and power steering. BUT, it just depends on how serious you wanna be. All of the recommendations are excellent by far. You could also lose the spoiler if had one put on it. Man, the mufflers weigh a ton and the tailpipes ain't light, either. I took those off on mine. After the Hpipe (stock) I had pipe put on which turn down and dump in front of the axle (sounds good, too). You could do the Off-road pipe too which would lose the catalytic converter weight as well. Did you remove the weight that is over the rear differential/pinion? There's a 10 lb. loss right there, too. After you change from the factory gear ratio the weight can be removed. Just undo two bolts and wahlah! If you still want to keep handling, though, I woudn't remove the sway bar(s). Just take the spare tire and jack out at the track and put it back when you're done racin'. Like was said: hood, Aluminum driveshaft, and other stuff would work. Somebody may be able to think of some other stuff, too. Radio and speakers, too, but hey, I like havin' tunes!! Hey, you can run ram air from your passenger side fog lamp location using clothes dryer vent ducting. Two tubes, side by side, from the fog lamp location to the air filter. Works on mine.
