Question Question: '97 Mustang GT

I was just wondering if it is possible and how to check the TPS on a mod motor. Also, what the heck is the little black knob located near the tps and throttle body?

What is the valve for and how do you know if it needs adjusting...

I think its some sort of vacuum line, and it shouldn't need adjusting at all. Just a way to monitor the vacuum or pressure in the line.... I think...

Thanx...I think it's too late for the adjusting part, I've already fooled with it.

When your car was stock, what RPM did you shift it at? When I first bought my car, it ran a 9.56 @ 71.9 mph in the 1/8 with a 2.16 60 ft on street tires (shifting at 5300). Since I installed the gears, the best it's run is a 9.70 @ 71.5 mph with a 2.10 60 ft on street tires.

I don't understand why I'm running better 60 ft times with the gears and not a better mph. What the hell? My clutch has been making some crazy noises, though, so I think it's time for a clutch change...it also may have something to do with me using 3rd a lot more in the 1/8th than before, but not sure...

A 2.1 60 foot with street tires and 3.73s is a really good time.
When I went to 3.73s with my street Gatorbacks, the best I could muster was around a 2.2. (I think I got a 2.17 once or twice...)

The best shift point on a stock early model modular GT is right around 5500 rpm. Any more and you linger in that part of the power band that just plain stinks....

Thumbs up

I thought I heard someone say sometime to shift right before your optimum shift point. That way by the time you are through the mechanics of the shifting, you are still shifting at your optimum rpm's. Might be something to try.

Question

Does anyone have a horsepower/torque graph of a stock '97 GT? It would be of great help.
