Default 97' Thunderbird 4.6L question

My buddy has this thunderbird that has a governor set on it, (correct) anyway it won't go over 100 mph. And he was wanting me to check with you guy's to see how he can get around this little speed problem. thanks

Performance chip. That's probably nullify the speed limiter. I didn't know they came with one though.

Hmm, Why didn't this come to Modular Madness?

Anyway, I think 96-98 16 in. wheeled GTs came with speed limiters also. Unit's right, a performance chip should do it...

My 95 T-bird did the same thing. It cut out at 106. The computer shuts off the ignition. You have to get a chip burned for it. I spent 250 bucks to get rid of the speed limiter and at the same time got some other goodies put into the chip also. The car will do 130 without the speed limiter !!!!!!!!!! It took a while to get there but it will do it.

Yea he said it cuts at around 109. I let him know he needs to get a preformance chip. Any suggestions on a good one or place? Thanks for the info.

Hmm... not sure. My dad has a 90 SC and I am pretty sure it does not have one since I've seen it at around 240km and that was only when I was in it. He already broke the speedometer on it. It tried going all the way around and it got stuck on the distance reset and broke the spring on it. =) Now that is fast. lol But I am not sure about yours or the newer ones.
Go to Super Couple Club Of America they will have all the info and stuff on where you can purchase a good one.

cyberstang, did it have any special options like different tires or rims? The SC t-birds didnt have a limitter due to the speed rated tires they came with. Or maybe you got lucky and the ECU is messed up from the factory.

My 97 T-Bird 4.6 does the same thing. A chip will fix it but he might as well do other mods too so those can be programmed into the chip also.

Try www.tccoa.com also
