anyone ever replace a 65-66 fastback window gasket
I have leaks on both sides of rear window into the interior and in trunk. I'm even pretty sure that some of the metal lip that the gasket attaches is rusted away by the way the water is getting in and needs to be fixed. Some ******* bondoed new rear fenders and did a piss pour job and water leaks in right through the panel. I'm tired of it all and am going to fix it once and for all. Just need to know how hard it is to remove and replace and how long it takes. Thank you all for any info.

remove glass by using a razor blade and cut the rubber off the top of the glass. Then remove the glass and the rest of the rubber.
next remove all chrome retainer clips and clean out all debris and calking if there is any. Check and make sure there are no pine holes along the bottom. Mine had 3 and they were welded up. If rust is found clean and coat it with por 15 and then paint. clean the glass real good and lay out the new window seal and put a small bead of window glaze in the valley where it fits around the window. using one of those medal through away brushes smear the window glaze all around the area where the glass and rubber seal goes in to the car. Make sure you smear it around where the chrome retainer clips go. Insert all retainer clips and then smear more glaze on top of them. Rap a small cotton rope around the out side grove of the window rubber seal leaving it long enough to rap around your hand when you get in the car. This takes two people to do the next step. By the way this is a good time to replace the head liner if both windows are out or you plan on doing both. fish both ends of the rope in to the inside of the car and lay window in and center. One person holds down on the glass where the rope ends are as another person inside the car slowly and carefully pulls one end of the rope following it around the glass. Make sure as this is being done that the rubber seal is pulling over to the inside of the car over the head liner. If careful this can be done with out making a mess. Remember the glazing. After the window is set in place and pulled in fill the gap around the out side of the window with more glaze and then install the chrome. The glaze also has a cleaner that you can get and use that to clean what gets on you and the car. It will not harm the paint but with out this cleaner you would have a mess. notes it is best to mask off around the window so you don't mess the paint up trying to get the chrome off and if you don't have a chrome trim puller get one it is cheep and will save a lot of frustration. This is the way the pro glass shop in Richmond does it and I also read an article in Mustang Monthly describing the same process. Good luck and Sorry if you did not want this info. ------------------ 66' coupe 200 inline 6 disk brakes and Ac 65' Fastback with 351W not finished 2001 V6 laser Red Tan inside |
