My friend as a 87 coupe that we know it is stock and he has 3.08 gears and I can bet him on any day, he cant get ahead of me even on the start. lx Mike I am going to try and see if my tach is right I have a Timing gun that tells your RPMs I will see if they say the same! I figure my stock tach is around 200 rpm fast. I was shifting around 6000 with tach and no real problems. I put a shift light in with 6000 pill, and if I don't shift, like right at the light the rev limiter hits (especially in 1st when the revs are climbing fast). Now I learn that the rev limiter is 6250 so I think I was really shifting at around 5800.

Ya, on a stock 5.0 you should shift just over 5000. The stock tach can be off by as much as 300 either way.

rev limiter is 6250 is that only when the car is in gear?? It revs up over 7000 on the tach, I had a 300+ Accel and it was with in 100 rpm on my tach. Is it Possible to rev it that far on the stock cam?? Like I said I got it at a repo lot, K&N and flowMasters I could not keep the timing right It need a new timing chain. It runs great 114000 miles on the car but It looks like it was rebuilt at some time.
I have a Getech and I will thy and do a 1/4 mile with it. I no it is not as good as at the track but it woks better than a stop watch. What 1/4 should I get with my car? I do have 2.73's Thanks! ------------------ 1988 LX 5.0 Drivetrain: 2.73 Stock Gears, World Class T-5, Lakewood Bellhousing, Summit Adjustable Cluch Quadrant & Cable, Alumminum Driveshaft, Flaming River Manual Steering Rack Suspension: MAC Control Arms,Maximum Motorsports Front Grip Package, H&R Sport Spings, Bilstein Shocks Engine: Steal Mounts, Ram air, K&N, Under Drive Pulles Exhaust: 1 5/8 Un-Equal Length Mac Headers, X-pipe W\cats, Edelbrock cat\back |

Yeah the stock tach will go to 7000rpm. But your stock stang has a 6250 rev lim.

Yeah on a stock 88 or newer fox body, there is NO power past that. I'm sure you already know. All my tachs are autometer 5 inch montster tachs, there the best, not a bad investment , plus the look cool. And you can always take it out if you want to sell it. Jegs and Summit have a take with memory and a shift lite for $109.

I just tested how much rpms I can get and the power band is at about 4000-6200. I dont think it is all stock. Times are 14.6@96mph that was with are bad 3 gear shift I dumped the clutch at 4000 rpm it had a bit of wheel spin. The next run was about 2min later and I dumped it at the same 4000 rpm and NO wheel spin at all the clutch just sliped 14.9@99mph
