AODE Shift Kits
i just started to look around at these things....most are saying quicker downstifting, higher rpm shifting, shorter and firmer shifts...and some of them kill the entire automatic process and make the shifting completely up to you....most also claim to not add extra wear on the transmission...
does anyone have any experience with shift kits for the AODE? are they worth looking into to increase performance out of my transmission...by performance i mean being able to shift it manually without hurting the hell out of my tranny... any info you guys have on these things would be great...i know ill prolly look into a tranny cooler at some point in the near future too...are they easy to install or should i have a shop do that? thanks for anything.. joanthon

AODE are electronically controlled by a computer, so Im not sure whats involved, but I imagine its a bigger pain than an AOD. try www.baumannengineering.com

I put a valve body shift kit in my '94, it was really no different than doing any other transmission. In fact the only difference was when pulling the valve body out, there were a few electrical plugs to pull out.
The one I got was an Art Carr. It was easy to install and shifted great while leaving it in drive. The only thing I didnt like about it was when shifting manually, it shifted soft. Im sure it was just a problem with the Art Carr kit, and not something that is associated with all of them. If I had it to do over again, I would try a trans-go kit. It seems like a more complete kit, its priced good, and it even comes with an instructional video. Andy

I just recently had a Transgo kit installed on my 01 GT, It rocks! I would recommend this kit. You have to be careful about two things when having a shift kit installed 1. Make sure that you dont have any tranny problems that already exist. 2. If your having the kit installed by a tranny guy, I would recommend you have the kit installed by a reputable guy who deals with high performance transmissions, Not some franchise transmission shop, Those guys suck!

the multiple post wasnt my fault, the site went crazy, and posted three times while i was still typing?
I was going to say, if your into the car hobby, learn to do your own work. Shift kits are a simple job, and theres no better way to learn about what makes it tick than to get in there and find out firsthand. |
