This should be an easy decision...

Hi Everyone!!!... I'm just looking for individual views and opinions.

I'm gonna be buying a Mustang in the next three weeks or so (whenever my truck sells)... I've done all the research I could possibly do. I've driven all (except the 99+). Concerning Insurance costs, reliability, depriciation, and performance, which would be the better choice, a 1996-1998 Cobra Coupe, or a 1999-2000 GT Coupe... we're talking about 45 hp difference... but what about suspension, transmission, mileage, interior design... how much different are the 96-98 body stlyles from the 99+ body styles? I wont be adding power ... I'll be taking it on rather long trips often (1,500 miles), but there will be a great deal of city driving too (average 21,000 miles per year). I'm not into racing, I just want a car, but there is always that lil devil on the shoulder poking at you to get the performer.

Thanks for everything...
Tony

Hi.

Since you are looking used on both sides of the equasion, I would personally get the Cobra! Ignoring the performance arguments before, overall you are starting with a much more loaded car for the price. Handling is far better as well. I have a 96 Cobra I got used in 2000, and 80000 mile later I am extremely happy with it (note that 60,000 came during 2001 while relocating).

That's my pick, However, for you the key is drive both. Try to get a feel for handling and accelleration. Check your personal comfort. Check for control location. Whichever fits you better is what you should probably get. If you don't notice a difference, then perhaps the GT is the right car for you. Best of luck!
