I have the Tokicos Illuminas which are designed to run on lowered vehicals and they work well.
The Steeda Sport Springs are progressive, but steeply so. Meaning you don't feel the little dumps, but they really let you feel the big ones.
I don't know anything about Gabriel shocks and struts. But even if they aren't happy running lowered, you can fanagle it with a good set of CC plates.
But you're right, you do not want to go lower then 1.25 inches drop, unless you replace the K-Member or you will upset the suspension geometry. Having your tie-rod pushing your wheel one way and your A-arm pushing it the other is not a good idea.
