1. What is a roots type blower ?

"Roots" style blowers are twin rotor designs that mount on the top of the engine. They are belt driven off of the crank. These range from the original gmc style blowers that have evolved into the superchargers found on Top Fuel/Funny Car engines to the latest blowers that come on the Saleen/Roush/Lightning vehicles.

2. where can I get one ?

I'm under the assumption that you will be using it on your 4.6 engine. Non-intercooled kits are available from FRPP (Ford Motorsport), Kenne-Bell, Saleen, etc. Intercooled kits are available from Saleen, Allen Engine Development and Roush is supposed to be offering one soon.

3. what do they cost?

Anywhere from $2500 to $4000. Depends on manufacturer and which model.

4. what kind of gains?

These kits are usually designed for lower engine speeds. Roots blowers make boost "right now". Gains are usually in the 70-140 hp range. However, the newfound power is low in the rpm range which makes them ideal for street cars.

5. Please provide any links to it.

Don't have any handy. Websites are easy to find on these manufacturers. FRPP, Saleen, Allen Engine Development, Eaton. Kenne-Bell has a site under construction but there's not much info. There is a site that is hosted by KB customers. Lots of info and tips. Run a search on "Kenne-Bell" and it'll be listed.
Good Luck!
