Calling all computer nerds....
I was wondering is there a program that monitors the CPU temp? I can't find one anywhere. I know I can see it in the BIOS but that means I have to restart. Is there anything for Windows? The reason why I am looking for a program is because I am worried that my chip is getting to hot. I have a huge fan on the CPU but I need it to be cooler. I leave the sides off of my case to have more air ciruclation but I have been told that I need to have the sides on to create a vacum within the case. Any suggestions???? (by the way I have a 1.1 GHz)

yes there is its called motherboard monitor but you can only use it if your CPU has the right kind of sensors in it Q: did u buy your cpu or build it?

if its at stock speed, you won't have a problem, don't worry about it. if you do care, get motherboard monitor, it'll probably work.

Motherboard monitor is a good program that will work with most new motherboards and chipsets. It detects your chipset automaticaly and gives out the temperature readings your motherboard supplies.
About the case, it is a good idea to leave the sides on but not because you want to create a vacum inside, but because you want a specific air flow from one side of the case to the other. The front fan sucks air in, the air passes over the CPU and other hardware and then is expelled out the back. This air channel is beneficial in that it removes the excess heat that the CPU fan and other heatsinks will radiate to the air around them. If you leave the sides off, then the air just mixes around with the outside air and you lose a lot of that flow. If you just have a CPU fan then it doesn't matter, but if you have a front fan(s) and exaust fans (powersupply, etc) then leave the sides on. Could you explain why you think the chip is getting too hot? As dinomite said, if the chip is running at factory specs and you have the OEM fan on, then there should be no reason to worry. A pentium chip probably runs in the neighborhood of 20-30 degrees C, and an Athlon chip should be right at 50. Both of these brands can handle temperatures much higher, it's just a lifetime issue. |

I have a 1.1GHz AMD Athlon processor. It runs about 52-53C when it has been on for about 18-24 hours. I want the CPU to run as cold as possible. The colder it is, the faster it runs (up to maximum speed). If I can get the CPU to run cold enough, I would like to over clock it.

cyberstang5.0,
Try to give your tower a lot of room on all sides. e.g dont back the tower into the wall on either side. Also a cheap trick you could try is get a small room fan a keep the room cool. It will lower the humidity level in the room. Also make sure you dont have any dust in your tower. It can keep A LOT of heat in the pc regardless of the fan size. later |

get an external cooler for the chip, and watch the overclocked cycles climb... (we're talking above and beyond the std. heatsink and fan)
I've heard of 1.2 Athlon t-birds hitting 1.6+ imagine the new 1.53 athlon's, can you say 2 ghz, which is like 3 ghz p4 speed.. ------------------ 94 GT (triple black) FMS 95 17" Cobra R's / AL Driveshaft / 3.27's K&N, 190 lph, subframes, pulleys MAC Shifter/Gauges/Pedals, Euro Clear Projectors & Corners My CAR! |

Actually, AMD just came out with a 1.8GHz CPU that destroys Intells 2.0GHz in EVERY SINGLE benchmark test. That is insane! Imagine if you over clocked that!!!!!!! (me like speed from my PC and my pony )
