what is the largest size tire that can go a mustang 17" rim???

A 275/40R17 is probably the biggest I would go. It fits good, and is wider than the stock tire. 8.25" is what it should measure. Any bigger I would go for a 17 x 9.

275/40R17
the 275 is the measurment form tire bead to tire bead. the 40 is the percentage of the 275 that is the side wall. The 17 is the rim size. IF you figure 40% of 275 and subtract it from 275 it will be around 210 mm which is equal to 8.25". The final widht depends on your rim width, but this should get you in the ballpark.
