Set of HEADS
I have a 98 gt and I've been looking for a good set of heads because everyone agrees that heads a great basis to begin with when you are going to build a car for power. I've seen one set in the ford performance catalog that said you would get 35 extra horsepower. For a thousand or so dollars I'm thinking 50 to 100 pony's. Does anyone know of such heads. Can you put the cobra's heads on a gt and would that give any horsepower if you could..

As far as heads go, right now I think that there are 3 options for 98 owners:
1. Port and polish our old heads (Good for about 30 horse) 2. Use 99-00 heads... (It is possible, but it looks like its much more than a bolt-on deal, with several parts needing to be changed/modified) 3. Buy the Ford SVO heads (At around 1400 dollars for both heads, its expensive, but looks to be a pretty straight forward mod. I do believe the computer gets a new chip for this. I don't know the exact hp gain, I think its around 60 horses. It's detailed in SVO's catalogue) If you are near stock, I would be looking at other, less expensive, more bolt-on type mods. But if you think you and your car are ready for it, my choice would be the SVO heads. ------------------ 1998 Mustang GT 13.97@103 "Traction Impaired" or "Nitto Needy" |

Where have you seen the heads for $1,400? The cheapest I have seen them is $1,700. Also the HP increase with the heads alone is about 35 hp. With the SVO intake, the hp jumps to about 70, but you are about $3,100 in the hole before they are even in the car. Plus you need the install kits which costs I think $100 to $200. I would get 99/00 heads which can be head for about $600 with cams and port the hell out of them. The Vortech V2 S-trim I think is about $2,699 which will give you more power and you can always add that stuff later.

Mike Marrilo of TExas Jam runs 10.60's with his stock 2000 GT heads. 10 lbs. of boost from a vortech and a 50 shot of N20 to keep it cool and from detonating. So buy a blower and forget about the heads.
