New Motor Being Built(BLOWN 347) E.T.A. 1 week :)
WEll, I thought I posted this already but I guess it didn't take. Here is what I have in the shop being built and what I else I am having done this week.
302 Block bored .030 347 Forged crank that I had sitting in my garage Eagle H-Beam rods D.S.S. Forged flycut pistons for a .593/.572 cam 9.7:1 Speed Pro Plasma Moly rings, no gap, anti-blowby Canton 7 qt oil pan with Windage tray ARP studs and bolts on everything That set me back about 2G's with labor, BUT I had the block and crank. I also sent my heads off to be ported. at our local race guy. He is giving me a portjob to flow about 290-300 cfm/220-230 cfm, and matching my Intakes to it. He is also doing a 5 angle v.j. and resurfacing my heads. He is charging me ONLY $500 for all that. I am pumped. Hopefilly I will have it running within the next two weeks. I am also hoping for about 550 rwhp with 9#'s.....do you guys think it will happen???? 550rwhp, I hope that block holds together! IT is a stock block you know! I saw its probably possible with a good tune. Sky Sorry, I forgot to mention that is it a 4 bolt. Got it from an old man that sold all of his sons car goodies when he died about a year ago. I got the crank and block for $300.
I would be insane trying to put 550 through a stock 2 block. ------------------ Dustin 89 Saleen GT Sport,428 rwhp,TFS Street Heat Intake,TFS TW Heads,TFS #2 cam,BD-11A 9 psi,Crane 1.6 rr's,BBK 70mm TB,Pro-M 80mm MAF,MSD 6BTM, FMS 9mm wires,BBK longtubes,BBK Short H-pipe,American Thunder cat back,3.55's 12.3@119 street tires 11.496@121.08slicks [This message has been edited by SaleenGTS (edited 09-30-2001).] |

Sounds like that will be a good solid motor and I think 550 is very possible with 9-11psi on that motor.
Stock block will take a lot with a good tune, my buddy "MUSMONDO" had a 750RWHP XX-Trim 23psi set-up on his stock 89 block, shifted at 7400rpm and it lived and is still living in another car with the same set-up, it's all in the tune, he ran a DFI and had everything tuned in right. Although I still can't see how he did that. Good Luck, now lets see how the tranny holds up ------------------ Check Out My Site 91GT,Holley SysteMAX II Kit-Heads 2.02" x 1.60" port matched to a 1262,Anderson N-61,24#,76mm C&L,Full MAC, No A/C or PS or emissions, 12" K&N Filter,RNH PERFORMANCE Ram Air,Ron Davis Radiator,Full Suspension, SPEC stage III clutch, Lakewood SFI bell, S&W 8pt "X" brace,JAZ seats,3:73's,Welds..etc,4:30's and 31 splines coming very soon! Why even mess with a 302, 347, or 351?
If you're going to build a mustang do it right! Go with a 429 Cobra Jet with twin Paxton Superchargers. Check it out @ http://www.cobraautomotive.com/images/paxlnk.jpg this is the way to get real power, and real speed. Don't mess around with small blocks go with big blocks. Andrew |

The only thing I question in your setup is your choice of rings. When you say "no gap, anti blowby" are you talking about gapless rings? If so, DO NOT use them in a forced induction setup!

Really??? Those are what D.S.S. recommended that I use to keep from blowby. Why do you say not to use them? Please respond quick, cause it IS IN THE SHOP.
asg7180- Not all of us are made of money like you why put a twin blown 429 in a 3000 lb street car? Makes no sense to me. I think my 347 will do just fine....thanks for your input though. ------------------ Dustin 89 Saleen GT Sport,428 rwhp,TFS Street Heat Intake,TFS TW Heads,TFS #2 cam,BD-11A 9 psi,Crane 1.6 rr's,BBK 70mm TB,Pro-M 80mm MAF,MSD 6BTM, FMS 9mm wires,BBK longtubes,BBK Short H-pipe,American Thunder cat back,3.55's 12.3@119 street tires 11.496@121.08slicks |

Hey SaleenGTS are you planning on putting 550 to the ground on stock rear suspension? I read your'e sig and didn't see and rear end mods. What gear are you running? I would say tou could even get very high 8's with a good set of lower arms and a set of 430 or 456 gears if you do make 550rwhp. Oh yeah when you get it broken in get that thing to a dyno. I would like to use a blown 347 in my drag car one day if the numbers are good enough.

Hope to start running next year. Hoping for 7.20's after all is done with small motor. [This message has been edited by pony_power_90 (edited 10-02-2001).] |

I received that information directly from two different ring manufacturers (Speed Pro, Childs & Alberts). Gapless are okay for n/a, but not forced induction. My machinist strongly agreed! Call Coast High/Probe, Keithcraft, Bennett Racing, ASSC, etc. and ask them what they think.
