![]() Greetings
I am a member of a website that is only open to ASE certified mechanics, and from it I receive close to 100 emails a day about problems and fixes that other mechanics are having. Anyway, when I see something of intrest, I like to share the info with others. Below is one I received today. I don't know if this has been covered in this forum or not, but it is something to watch out for. Take care, ~Chris ******************************************** 1997 Ford Mustang 4.6 L Trans: Automatic Mileage: 81,000 mi Misc Data: Police persuit Vehicle Affected Item: Intake Manifold _____________ ORIGINAL MESSAGE: _____________ We have tried to 'patch' a crack in this $250 composite intake manifold with out success. Does anyone know of a substance or material which will mend this defect, causing coolant to leak out just behind the alternator? We have drilled both ends of the crack, tapered the valley and applied JB Weld. It doesnt last long. Factory assistance refused or unavailable. Thanks. ________________ FIX: _________________ There is no 'magic sealant' for this situation. We replaced the manifold and judging by the response, this problem is occuring throughout North America. It seems that in some places this is covered under some phantom warranty and in others, it is not. The fact that this does not occur untill 70K+ probably has something to do with the warranty coverage. Many thanks to all of you techs with the sensible, constructive answers.
