Lightbulb Want to know how to change your trip odometer into a digital tach?

Sometimes I am a little slow on the draw and I am still a little new to the Mustang world. As a result, you may already know how to do this. But a friend of mine at Ford showed my how to turn your trip computer to a digital tach as well as retrieve a dozen other pieces of info from the car using the trip display as a readout. It is pretty cool. If you have not done this, you must absolutely try it.

I know this trick works on 2000 - 2003 models. I do not know about older cars. Here is how you do it.

1 - With the car not running, push your finger down on the trip reset buttom by your odometer.

2 - With your finger still pushing down on the button, turn the ignition key two clicks forward untill the acessories come on.

3 - Keep your finger on the trip reset button, and turn the key back two clicks.

4 - Keep your finger on the trip reset button and then start the car.

5 - Keep holding the trip reset button for a few more seconds until the trip display shows "test" instead of mileage data.

6 - You can now release the trip reset button. Each time you now press it, the display will cycle through a number of diagnostic data. I do not know what most of this stuff means...some will be obvious. As you keep pressing the button, you will get to the digital readout of engine rpms.

You can use this feature to properly set your idle or just have fun with it. When you shut the car off or press and hold the button again, it resets the system.

Let me know what you think or even if "dah, I knew this already."
