i have a 98 mustang gt 4.6l and i dont see any cat converters on it any where. its dual exhaust, It has the sensors in the exhaust i can see them but other then that it just has the mufflers, and my check engine light came on and sayed catalyst efficincy below threshhold. code P0420. but like i said i dont see any catalictic converters no where. Why???? mabey aftermarket exhaust??? I was told by exhaust shop that they have an after market off road exhuast for this year that dont have cat converters on it is this true or did some one just take off the cats?. can any one help me with this question??? thanks

Sounds like you've got an off-road exhaust system. There are many cat-less pipes made for your car. You've got two ways to solve the cat efficiency issue (1) add a set of MIL eliminators or (2) have the car custom tuned and shut the rear O2's off in the tune.

A stock 1998 GT actually comes with no fewer than 6 cats. Your car has an aftermarket offroad exhaust. To fix this an "MIL" eliminator kit can be bought. All this is is a resistor you plug in between the factory harness and the two rear oxygen sensors. This tricks the computer to think that the cats are working fine so it doesnt turn on the check engine light. I had these on my 1998 gt and they worked fine. I would reccomend getting a Diablo chip or a SCT excalibrator chip which will also eliminate this problem but it will give you more power for a little more money than the MIL eliminators.
