Default AOD in a cobra...

Ok you're gonna think I'm a lunatic for even suggesting this. I was considering looking into an AOD for my cobra at one point in time. When I had my 86 buick GN I was amazed at the power it developed, despite being an automatic. I test drove a 2001 mustang GT with an auto and found it rather enjoyable. Some of the toughest mustangs on the planet (the V10 Boss and Super Stallion) are autos, and in this months MM&FFs the annual modular motor shootout was won by an automatic-equipped 99 GT (one that put out 566 RWHP... but an auto none-the-less). The guy said it "removes the worry of missed shifts from the equation". Has anyone ever put an AOD into a twin cam cobra? I actually don't see myself switching out my 5 speed for one, but man o man it would make the trip out of the Burger King drive-through a lot less hazardous lol.

Ain't no shame in that. I guy I knew back in the day had an accident and after couldn't drive stick, so he put an Aod in his 94 snake. He also put a 5.8 in, but not cause of the accident . Bottom line: It's YOUR car, whatever makes you happy is cool.

Cool

Go ahead.

Most of the AOD swaps intot he DOHC is a racing requirement. Not necessarily a daily driver swap.

Sounds like it makes sense to you so go ahead.

Go with a built 4R70W. This is the best auto i've ever seen. They are quite durable too. with a good torque converter and the AOD behind the 4V you'll have one srious street/strip machine. Don't avoid autos just because you're "only cool if you drive a stick car." This is not true, in serious racing automatics are the only way.

Thanks for the insight fellas, it's something I'm researching now. I am looking at afew differerent transmission choices and am calling around on the install prices. It will make the gridlock WA commutes somewhat less frustrating lol. Might go with a Lentech, but whatever the end result it will need to be something strong enough to handle the power adders and such later on. Thanks again.

Yeah the Lentechs are a good tranny. I was thinking about going with a Lentech Street/Strip Terminator once I need a stronger transmission but for now the 4R70W can handle the power.
