It doesn't hurt to take it easy on the motor, but that's really not the complete reason anymore to breakin a new car. The clutch would need a break in of 500 miles, but these days motors are supposively broken-in at the factory. This ensures that they don't have to dish out warranty products and money for every damn car sold that wasn't granny driven for the first 1500 miles.
I had a brand new Wrangler TJ a couple years back(only new veh. I've owned) and this is what I was told by the 25 year experienced car salesman that has worked for Chrysler, GM and Ford dealerships and attended all manufacturer meetings available to him.
I believe it.
