Default s-trim vortech, intercool or not

Have a vortech s-trim 8 pound on my 01 gt. Any opinions or hard data to show if it's worth the money to put the air-water intercooler on that is offered for these superchargers.

I'd put one in if you have the cash and increase the boost too about 10.

Cool

No hard #s but the safety margin is indisputable.

I'd recommend getting the intercooler or aftercooler set-up.

If I had the extra cash lying around right now I'd definitely go for it. I have strongly considered one for my car just for the engine protection along, plus the extra 40 or so hp would be a bonus.

Thanks guys, I will go with the cooler. I would love to go to a 10 or even more a 12lb pully but I might keep it at 8lbs and still have a warrenty from vortech.

Good choice, You might even keep the bottom end for a while too...

I agree I would also get a cooler if given the choice.

Every time I have ever seen a aftercooler upgrade for the Vortech supercharger they have come with a smaller pulley for the supercharger to make more boost to take advantage of the much cooler air charge. I have not seen any detonation issues on pump (92-93) gas with Vortech's kit. They seem to work extremly well.

Default Detonation

There are always issues of detonation on a blown motor , ifiyou do not have a good tune (on a dyno by someone who knows) I have blown 3 motors as a result of a poor mechanic and tune. I run a vortech with aftclr pumping 14 lbs of boost..But I am running forged Eagle rods CP pistons Molley rings best racing bearings ARP bolts and studs thruout and 8.2 comp. pistons, etc. ,etc..

Technick...has the right idea! If you don't increase boost you will actually loss boost with an intercooler.

Went on the Vortech web site and your right they send a new pully with the kit. As stated you will lose some boost with any efficient innercooler and this new pully should make up for it. Makes me wonder NEW QUESTION? how much boost a stock automatic 01 gt motor can handle provided the fuel, timing, and detonation are kept in check? This car when played with is played hard, but also serves as a daily driver. Planning on having it on the dyno in a few months and hopefully after a few phone calls ( trial & error), diablo can cut me a dam good chip. Thanks for your help!

Highly recommend you do not rely upon a mail order chip! Chances are great you will blow ring glands under some good boost if the A/F ratio and timing is not set for your motor. ..needs to be tuned on a dyno by someone you can trust......if you don't already hve them ,I recommend fuel pressure and boost gages......Good luck

You can run up to 14-16 psi of boost pressure, IF you do not have detonation! 1 ping and your toast. If you get the A/F ratio right it is amazing how much power these engines will make stock. But remember NO DETONATION! Ran a 98 Cobra on the dyno with 15 psi boost, EVERYTHING else was STOCK but the Whipplecharger, made 450 rwhp. Put it on the street and the added load of wind resistance and road resistance at 120 plus mph and BANG! out came one connecting rod out of the side of the block! It don't take much to cross the line and ruin everything if you run on the ragged edge.
