Default Installation of an 180*stat, just pop out pop in?

I was told and figured changing the stat was very easy for 96-98 stangs but when i bought the mr. gasket 180 stat it says stuff like i have to replace the gasket with a new one and drain the coolant completly but i dont want too so can i just take the old one out and put the new one in and replace the coolant that squarts out a little with some new to be at normal, thanks

Well the gskt is actually a "O" ring that should come with the new t-stat. Use a new one! Second, the t-stat is located in the lower radiator hose close to the oil filter area. When you take out the old t-stat you will automatically lose all the coolant from the radiator, no 2 ways about it. You cannot change the t-stat fast enough to prevent it from happening! FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS!
